Description
Florence Country Club was founded in 1924. While the original architect is unknown, the 18-hole course was built in the “Donald Ross" style, using the natural contours of the small 77-acre site. The club has had a very rich history of golf, tennis, and social activities for almost 90 years.Florence Country Club has hosted many top amateur and professional golf tournaments over the years. Two USGA Championships have been conducted here, the 1955 Girls Junior Championship and the 1963 Junior Amateur Championship. The Grant Bennett Junior invitational, first conducted in 1951, continues to be one of the top regional junior golf tournaments today. FCC has hosted the PGA Tour Qualifying School 8 times and is a popular venue for the participants with several current Tour players having qualified here. Seven members of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame came from the Florence Country Club, including Buddy Baker, the 1958 USGA Junior Amateur champion.
